Two major trends are driving hiring in 2025: digitalization and an aging population, making technology and healthcare the industries with the most job opportunities.
“Tech jobs in the U.S. are projected to grow at twice the rate of the overall workforce in the next decade,” reported TechTarget.
Meanwhile, the “gray tsunami” of retiring Baby Boomers is creating healthcare demand.
“By 2030, 1 in 5 Americans will be 65 years or older,” reports Trualta. “Healthcare occupations will grow 13 percent from 2021 to 2031, adding two million new jobs.”
Regionally, PRT Staffing analysis finds hiring trends to watch are strong growth in tourism, logistics and finance in Florida and Georgia, and significant investments in research, engineering, and advanced manufacturing in Arizona and New Mexico.
Data Scientists is the Fastest Growing Tech Occupation
BLS analysis from February 2025 shows that data scientists are projected to be one of the fastest growing occupations nationally, just edging information security analysts.
“With an increase of nearly 42 percent over the 2023–33 decade, data scientists is the occupation projected to have the fastest employment growth in professional, scientific, and technical services. More workers are expected to be needed in this occupation to help analyze and use large amounts of data and information,” says the BLS. “Computer systems design and related services is projected to have the fastest employment growth of industries in this sector, increasing by 19.5 percent from 2023 to 2033. Heightened demand for workers in this industry is expected due to outsourcing of IT functions to specialized firms, increased cybersecurity needs, and continued adoption of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI).”
